At a conference this week, I spoke to a woman whose very wealthy father passed away without leaving a will—or at least, not one anyone could find. His admin was chaotic, and because he died intestate, the law dictated what happened next.
He had remarried later in life and, under the rules of intestacy, his new wife inherited everything. Her three sons will likely benefit one day, but his first family—three daughters who had been close to him and helped care for him—were left with nothing.
They’re grieving the loss of their dad, but also the painful truth that he didn’t take the steps to protect them. Even a modest gift would have helped with their mortgages, their children, their lives.

It’s not about the money. It’s about feeling seen, remembered, and loved.
